Career Development: Bringing Value
Join us on June 20th at 5pm PDT for an exciting presentation by Deborah Sgro to learn strategies for advancing your career by bringing value to your organization.
This one-hour presentation explores value-added activities as a career advancement strategy. The participants are introduced to the concept of employment as a business transaction between buyer (employer) and seller (employee). As in any business relation, each side is pursuing value for their investment, which is especially true when negotiating career advancement.
The presentation starts with a definition of value-added activities as those that produce measurable results for one’s team, company or client. Emphasis is placed on understanding contributions that are aligned with the organization’s or customer’s financial and strategic objectives.
Utilizing value-added activities as part of career advancement strategy is explored by reviewing various value-added categories. An exercise assists the participants in assessing their current “value-added” profile, and techniques are reviewed for improving one’s value-added contribution.
The presentation concludes with a review of self-advocacy techniques to confidently communicate one’s contribution to an organization or customer’s business goals through engagement in value-added activities.
