Machine Learning with Python and Scikit-Learn

April 28, 2017 @ 9:30 am - 2:00 pm PDT

Join us for a hands-on training on Machine Learning with Python and Scikit-Learn cordially hosted at MapR on April 28th. The training will be led by Lukas Biewald, Chief Data Scientist and founder of Crowdflower.

Introduction to Machine Learning with Scikit-Learn. Scikit-Learn is the powerful open source Python Library that is easy to use and has a wide variety of Machine Learning algorithms, with which data scientists can easily create production ready applications. Best of all, no advance math skills are required. Come join us as Lukas Biewald, Chief Data Scientist and founder of Crowdflower, covers some basic Machine Learning techniques, highlights some real world applications and demonstrates how to create these simple yet fantastic models.

PLEASE READ – Prerequisites: Familiarity with Python or any programming language is recommended, though not required. Please bring your laptop for this training. Please have Scikit-learn installed. If you have any issues with installation, please bring it earlier and we can try and set it up before the meetup.

Lunch will be provided.

Agenda:
9:30 Check in & Set up
10:00 Hands On Training – Part 1
12:00 Lunch
1:00 Hands On Training – Part 2

Course Content:
1 – High level overview of Machine Learning and applications
2 – Quick overview of Jupyter notebooks
3 – Do feature selection on real world (Twitter data)
4 – Run Naive Bayes and SVM on twitter data
5 – Build a small data pipeline with feature selection and model building
6 – Do a small parameter search
7 – How to apply skills to real world jobs

Instructor: Lukas Biewald is the founder and Chief Data Science of CrowdFlower. Founded in 2009, CrowdFlower is a data enrichment platform that taps into an on-demand to workforce to help companies collect training data and do human-in-the-loop machine learning.

Following his graduation from Stanford University with a B.S. in Mathematics and an M.S. in Computer Science, Lukas led the Search Relevance Team for Yahoo! Japan. He then worked as a senior data scientist at Powerset, acquired by Microsoft in 2008. Lukas was featured in Inc Magazine’s 30 Under 30 list. Lukas is also an expert level Go player. Twitter: @l2k.
