Position Description: Under the direction of the Director, Student and Teacher Outcomes, the Data Analyst is responsible for interpreting data and analyzing results using statistical techniques.  This position will use analysis and collection techniques to turn data into information and will provide insight to guide business decisions.

Essential Duties:

  • Assess data quality and resolve issues of data accuracy
  • Assist in the development and implementation of data collection systems and other strategies that optimize efficiency, quality, and accuracy
  • Summarize and analyze data collected from established internal/external processes, procedures, and repositories
  • Assist in the creation of internal/external data processes, procedures, and repositories
  • Conduct technical reviews and summaries of external data sources and research reports
  • Create innovative reports, displays, and summaries of numerical and textual (quantitative/qualitative) data and/or analytical findings
  • Identify, analyze, and interpret trends or patterns in complex data sets
  • Review computer reports, printouts, and performance indicators to locate, “clean,” and correct problems with data
  • Support internal/external clients with data requests
  • Organize and schedule the timely collection, analysis, and reporting of data to internal/external clients
  • Generate reports from single or multiple systems
  • Manage master data, including creation, updates, and deletion
  • Train end users on new reports and dashboards
  • Work with team and management to prioritize business and information needs
  • Locate and define new process-improvement opportunities
  • Travel, as needed
  • Perform other duties as assigned

Minimum Qualifications:

The Data Analyst must provide evidence of or demonstrate the following:

  • Ability to analyze existing tools and databases and provide solution recommendations
  • High-level experience in methodologies and processes for managing large-scale databases
  • Strong knowledge of and experience with reporting packages, databases, and programming
  • Knowledge of statistics and experience using statistical packages for analyzing data sets
  • Strong written and oral communication skills
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze, and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy
  • Adept with queries, writing reports, and presenting findings

Experience and Education*:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management, Statistics, or related field
  • Minimum of three (3) years of experience working with education data or in the field of education research

*Allowable Substitutions: Any combination of experience and training that provides the incumbent/applicant with the knowledge, skills, and ability required to perform the work, as determined by AVID Center. Qualifying work experience, as identified by the Senior Director of Human Resources may substitute for the education requirement.

Physical Demands:

In performing the duties of this position, the employee is required to:

  • Remain in a stationary position for up to 50% of the time
  • Constantly operate a computer and other office machines
  • Frequently communicate and exchange accurate information
  • Move about the office environment
  • Occasionally move objects up to 10 lbs.
  • Detect and discern objects near and far

Work Environment:

  • Typical office conditions; low to moderate noise
  • Typical travel conditions
  • Demanding timelines
  • Subject to frequent interruptions and extensive contact with others

Hazards:

  • Extended viewing of computer monitor
  • Working around and with office equipment having moving parts
