Senior Data Engineer Position Overview

The Data Engineer is responsible for developing and maintaining Parsley’s data processing software. Their duties include coordinating with the CEO and other professionals at Parsley and outside organizations to create unique data architecture, running tests on designs to isolate errors and updating systems to accommodate changes in company needs.

What You Can/Will Do

We are looking for an experienced data engineer (several years of shipping code to production) to contribute to our product direction and research collaborations. Parsley’s Data Engineer will:

  • Build complex data pipelines including working with available APIs
  • Contribute to design of an API for Parsley
  • Create data documentation 
  • Work with research and engineering collaborators
  • Help contribute data perspective to product design and roadmap
  • Contribute to team culture of collaboration and innovation


Skills and Experience You Have

  • Ability to build and optimize data sets, ‘big data’ data pipelines and architectures 
  • Ability to perform root cause analysis on external and internal processes and data to identify opportunities for improvement and answer questions 
  • Excellent analytic skills associated with working on unstructured datasets 
  • Ability to build processes that support data transformation, workload management, data structures, dependency and metadata
  • Proficiency with AWS tooling and experience implementing pipelines on AWS
  • Demonstrated ability with Ruby on Rails

Nice To Haves

  • Lived experience with public benefits (Medicaid, SNAP, SSI, etc.) or financial struggles
  • Frontend, backend or full stack experience
  • Data visualization or data science experience
  • Web crawling, scraping experience
  • Design history
  • Startup experience
  • Familiarity with Airtable,Typescript and React

Details about the Job

  • $80,000 - $110,000/year 
  • Fully remote with occasional in-person meetings if you are based in Madison
  • Full-time salaried position
  • Employee stock option .25% to .75%
  • Benefits include medical, dental, vision
