Position Summary:

This position will serve as the Director of the UW E-Business Consortium (www.uwebc.wisc.edu), a highly successful university-industry partnership that has involvement from more than 85 companies from a variety of industries. This position will have responsibility for leading and overseeing UWEBC’s staff to implement strategies to achieve operational and financial success, as well as for supporting the development and execution of new growth initiatives.


Established in 1998, the UWEBC is a premier peer-to-peer learning organization bringing together Wisconsin’s flagship university and leading companies to focus on thought leadership, business best practices, innovative strategies and emerging technologies. UWEBC’s offerings comprise learning events and advisory services for executives, managers and senior practitioners in various functional areas across the company, including customer service, information technology, marketing and supply chain management. UWEBC serves as a unique and effective resource for ongoing human capital and organizational capability development, and enables member companies to achieve operational excellence and business innovation by leveraging the collective wisdom and experience of world-class companies.


The director will have primary responsibility for overseeing the delivery of UWEBC’s offerings, including: day-to-day supervision of practice directors (who are largely independent and self-directed, but with whom regular consultation is critical) and the shared-services team (including member services and events, marketing and communications, membership and sales); coordination of efforts amongst UWEBC staff to ensure timely and high-quality execution; and continuous process improvement to enhance organizational performance and member impact. Additionally, it is expected that the director will work on strategic initiatives focused on growing and sustaining UWEBC’s success and impact, and in coordination with other campus programs for professional and executive development.


Principal duties:

  1. Participate in the development of strategies and manage their execution to achieve UWEBC’s goals in terms of financial, member-centric, internal process and organizational health metrics.


  1. Manage the development and delivery of UWEBC’s offerings through
  • day-to-day supervision and coordination of practice directors and the shared-services team
  • guidance and problem-solving to address operational issues and challenges
  • adoption and continuous improvement of standard internal processes
  • providing appropriate and responsive feedback and professional development for UWEBC staff (both individually and collectively).


  1. Establish and maintain relationships with executive sponsors at UWEBC member companies.


  1. Develop and execute new strategic initiatives to grow and sustain UWEBC’s success and impact, and in coordination with other campus programs for professional and executive development.


  1. Organize and lead meetings of the UWEBC Advisory Board.


  1. Other duties as assigned.


Degree and area of specialization:

Masters degree required.


Masters degree (or higher) in business administration or a related field (any discipline pertinent to information systems, organizational development, marketing, sales, customer service, operations and supply chain management) preferred.


Minimum number of years and type of relevant work experience:

-- 10 years or more experience in a leadership capacity.

--At least 5 years experience in leadership roles with responsibilities such as strategic planning, program development and management, business operations management, customer relationship management, organizational development and change management, and department climate/culture enhancement.

-- At least 7 years experience as a leader/manager of teams.


Preference will be given to candidates who:

-- Have prior experience in organizational leadership roles such as chief operating officer or managing director.

-- Have an exemplary record of performance as a team leader.
