WiBD and zbyte joined forces to launch the very first Hackathon with industry collaboration.  WiBD’s North West (Portland, USA), India, and Costa Rica chapters participated in the pilot hackathon. All 3 chapters targeted regional University students for participation.

Participants got the opportunity to learn Data Analysis, Big Data, Blockchain, and Web3 application development using zbyte’s platform and technical leadership skills. Basic skills requirement to join the hackathon was JavaScript programming, Software development, and is familiar with Big Data and API concepts.

Participants joined a team as either a team member or a team coordinator and worked collaboratively under the guidance of a domain expert (Team Leader) and Chapter Hackathon Leader to complete a specific project. Zbyte provided technical support, zbyte platform training and communication via zbyte’s Discord channel. There were 4 Hackathon challenges/projects to choose from. It was a 8-week hackathon program from the last week of October 2023 through the first week of December 2023.

WiBD’s NW (Portland) chapter had 13 students from 3 Oregon universities participated as part of 3 teams under the able mentorship of Srinithi Srinivasan, Girijesh Thodupunuri and Elugam Sudhiswar.

The Costa Rica chapter had 5 students from 3 local universities participating as 1 team under the perfect team leader, Andrea María Li Hernández.

We thank our WiBD Chapter Hackahton Leaders – Sonali Pagade, Stuti Patel and Tannia Rivera for their leadership, dedication, meticulous planning and organization to successfully complete the hackathon on time.

All participants received a joint certification from WiBD and Zbyte, one internship per chapter (Zbyte), monetary rewards to Team Leads and Chapter Hackathon leads (Zbyte).

WiBD was pleased to receive feedback from the participants and Zbyte alike. Some of the feedback received – “This hackathon gave me the opportunity to learn about Blockchain and Web3 application development. I am now interested in learning more about the domain”. Zbyte was very impressed with the kind of application our participants built, those apps now will be made available on their platform. This was a great accomplishment for our student participants. We hope that this journey has equipped them with cutting-edge skills in Big Data, Blockchain, and Web3 application development and fostered a vibrant community of passionate learners and future leaders.

We extend our gratitude to Naman Gupta, Thomas Winkler, Saurabh Radhakrishnan from Zbyte and Eliana Castillo and Rupa Gangatirkar from WiBD who showed exemplary collaboration, execution and for successfully driving the program to completion.

WiBD celebrates and congratulates all the participants, leads and hackathon execution team. We are incredibly proud of each and every one of you!  The world of technology needs your brilliance, your passion, and your unique perspectives.
